ABOUT
Twenty years on, still one question.
What leadership requires when capability is not enough.
How we work on it
We start from what is actually operating in a particular organisation rather than from a model, because what good leadership requires is not the same everywhere.
And we treat the tensions that will not resolve as material to work with rather than faults to remove. Both convictions came out of the practice. The research came out of trying to explain them.

The directors
Dr Roger Maitland
Founder and director
Roger coaches senior leaders and builds the frameworks the programmes are designed around.
For twenty-two years he has coached senior leaders, much of it inside Fortune 500 organisations. Most arrive at a point where what made them effective has stopped being enough: a bigger role, a harder mandate, a decision with no clean answer.
The work is rarely about becoming a different leader. It is about changing how you lead without losing the things that made you effective in the first place, which is the part almost nobody manages alone.
- 500+ leaders coached across financial services, energy, technology, manufacturing, FMCG and retail
- EMCC Global Master Practitioner
- PhD in Business Administration, University of Cape Town
- MA Professional Development (Coaching) with distinction, Middlesex University
- Team coaching (Cape Cod Model), Gestalt International Study Center
- Research Fellow and adjunct faculty, Stellenbosch Business School, on the M.Phil in Leadership Coaching
Outside the work, Roger is usually researching a Scottish ancestor who has been dead for four centuries, on a mountain, or in a country whose language he has entirely failed to learn.
Brett Anderson-Terry
Founder and director
Brett works with leadership teams through transformation, restructuring and the complexity of operating across geographies.
By thirty he had built and sold his first business in media. Since then, twenty-five years with multinational and Fortune 500 organisations across Sub-Saharan Africa, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, supporting leadership teams through transformation and restructuring. He understands what it feels like to be the person responsible, not just the person advising.
He specialises in organisational change and leadership team development, drawing on systems thinking, NLP and personal construct approaches. Clients describe the work as gaining a new lens: seeing themselves, their teams and their context with a clarity that was not there before.
- EMCC Global Master Practitioner
- Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Development, Stellenbosch University
- Master NLP Practitioner and Coach
- Team coaching (Cape Cod Model), Gestalt International Study Center
- Co-author on the published Adaptive Polarity Framework
Outside the work, Brett can be found debating current affairs, or being managed by two very opinionated Siamese cats.
ASSOCIATES
Our programmes are delivered by a small group of senior associates who have worked with us across many engagements. All are accredited coaches with EMCC Global or the ICF, and matched to the context and level of each engagement.

Jane Wilkinson
Associate Coach
Jane works with leaders in transition: newly promoted, stepping up in scope, or working out what the next level actually requires of them. Her coaching is pragmatic and works with what is real in the leader’s situation rather than what a framework says should be happening.
- EMCC Global Senior Practitioner
- M.Phil Management Coaching, cum laude, Stellenbosch Business School
- BA (Hons) Public Administration
- Chartered Fellow, CIPD

Pam Moore
Associate Coach
Pam specialises in executive career planning and transition, drawing on 30 years in and consulting to major organisations. Thinking about the next chapter of a career is rarely urgent until it suddenly is, and a partner to lead that process helps leaders navigate it with more intention.
- EMCC Global Senior Practitioner
- MBA, University of Cape Town
- BA (Hons) Sociology, University of Exeter
- Practitioner Certificate in Coaching, South African College of Applied Psychology

Indy Neogy
Associate Coach AND FUTURIST
Indy works with leaders facing problems where the challenge is not only solving what is in front of them but thinking clearly about what is coming. His central question is one most leadership development avoids: what do you do when you don’t know what to do?
- ICF Associate Certified Coach
- Professional Certificate in Executive Coaching, Henley Business School
- MBA, University of Leeds
- S.B. Aerospace Engineering, MIT
